YMCA kicks off Strong Kids Campaign

More than 837 individuals and families received a combined $207,000 in assistance to participate in YMCA programs last year. The YMCA also hosts special events, outings and race events, and receives a United Way allocation to help fill in the gaps.

Chairman of the Strong Kids Campaign, Paul Bedient, kicked off the campaign with 21 other community volunteers Wednesday morning at the YMCA.

“What sets the YMCA apart from other organizations is our ability to provide programs such as preschool, summer camp and swimming lessons to every member of our community — regardless of their ability to pay,” Bedient said.

The Strong Kids Campaign has different levels of support: A $50 gift pays for a swim lesson for a child in need, a $150 gift would give a deserving child a one-week summer camp experience, and a $1,000 Chairman’s Circle gift would pay for a single-parent family’s preschool and child care needs for a year.

All the money raised for the Strong Kids Campaign goes directly to support kids and families, while overhead is absorbed within the YMCA operation. Donations can be sent directly to the Tri-Cities Family YMCA, 1 Y Drive, Grand Haven MI 49417.
