French Academy students go wild over Mother Nature

Sami Price of Spring Lake Township served as a model for Heather Voiles, a French Academy student from Muskegon. Voiles spent close to five hours fashioning Price into a peacock with feathers around her waist, feathers in her hair and multicolored rhinestones glued to her eyebrows.

“She even made the earrings,” said Price, a 2009 Fruitport High School graduate. “I’ve done other modeling things, but I’ve never done a runway. I would really like to get into it.”

Taylor Loeser of Ludington was done up as a thunderstorm. Calling herself “Cloud Nine,” Loeser said it has always been a dream of hers to model on a runway.

“But I’m wearing 5-inch heels and it’s kind of slippery,” she said. “You have to really get your pace down.”

Loeser’s mom, Tami, is a nail tech student at the Spring Lake school.

“I watched them get ready today and it’s really amazing what they can do with hair and makeup,” said Tami, also of Ludington. “It’s really an art.”

French Academy instructor Angela Delo said she was thrilled with her students’ efforts.

“We did a Mother Nature theme with the complete look from head to toe,” Delo said. “They styled all day and they’ve gone way far beyond what I expected. It’s good to let them be creative and good to see them so excited about the careers ahead of them.”

UPDATE:  Jessica Brink’s “butterfly” hairstyle took first place. Second place went to Linda Somerville for her “fall tree,” Alexis Sauser took third place with her “Jungle Jane” do and the People’s Choice award went to Heather Voiles for her “peacock.” The stylists from the Spring Lake school won hair tools and products.

About 150 people attended the show held at the Grand Haven Community Center on Thursday evening.
