Switching to monthly meetings in GH Twp. unlikely

Board meeting minutes show the meeting was called to order at 7 p.m. and was adjourned four minutes later — resulting in what township officials called “record” speed.

Following that meeting, board members raised the idea of possibly switching from its regularly scheduled bi-monthly meetings — which are held the second and fourth Monday of the month — to one monthly meeting June through September.

“If there is a bill that comes in after their last meeting and is due before their next meeting, and we would incur a penalty if we didn’t pay it, they (Township Board) would give staff the authorization to pay it and then they approve it post-audit at the next meeting,” Township Manager Bill Cargo said.

While a majority of the board did not agree with switching to monthly meetings, the board will raise the issue at its December meeting, when they typically schedule meetings for the following year.

“I think the board made it pretty clear they’re not sure they want to do this,” Cargo said. “They realize that it may be too extreme of a solution for a short-term situation.”
