State issues advisory for Lake Michigan trout

State officials said the new advisory does not mean that contamination from PCBs, dioxins and the chemical compound Chlordane is a worsening problem in Lake Michigan trout. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources said the risks are slim of real harm from occasionally eating lake trout.
DNR fisheries division acting chief Jim Dexter said the advisory “serves as a guideline, not a mandate.” But some charter boat owners worry the advisory will hurt business.
