GH City Council approves new wind turbine ordinance first reading

Monetza said that there were a few tweaks to the Ottawa County ordinance by the city’s Planning Commission, including not allowing large-scale wind turbines such as those found on wind farms.

Prior to coming in front of council for a final vote, planning commissioners had been working on an amendment to the city’s zoning ordinance regarding wind turbines for several months.

“Each one of them will be viewed as a special land use by the Planning Commission in each case,” Mayor Roger Bergman said of the turbines.

As a special land use, small structure-mounted wind turbines (SSMWETS), small tower-mounted wind energy turbines (STMWETS), and medium wind energy turbines (MWETS) would need to come before the Planning Commission for approval.
