Blueberry market owners hope to expand fields

Dave and Kelley Reenders of True North Farms — who also own Crossroads Blueberry Market, 14315 Lake Michigan Drive — want to rezone the wooded properties from either rural preserve or rural residential to agricultural in order to expand their existing 300-acre blueberry fields. One of the requests is to divide an 11-acre parcel — with 4 acres being rezoned from rural preserve to agricultural, and 7 acres from rural preserve to rural residential.

All of the properties that the Reenders are seeking to rezone are located on 144th Avenue, about a half-mile north of Lake Michigan Drive in Grand Haven Township.

The Grand Haven Township Board on Monday held a required first reading on the four rezoning requests and tabled them until its next meeting.

Last week, the township’s Planning Commission approved the rezonings, stating they meet the “Three C’s” method: compatibility, consistency and capability with the township’s master plan.
