Harbor Drive construction detours to begin Tuesday

Tribune Staff • Jul 21, 2015 at 11:06 AM

At the northern end of the Harbor Drive project, all through-traffic headed south (beach and park traffic) on Harbor will be directed to take the detour on Howard Avenue, where signs will lead them back to Harbor Drive by taking Lake Avenue.

Traffic traveling to or from a destination on Harbor Drive between Howard and Sherman, or to the Tri-Cities Family YMCA or Mulligan’s Hollow, will have full access.

An access route will be maintained on Harbor Drive south of the south side of the intersection with Y Drive to allow access to businesses and homes within the project area and to allow access for emergency service vehicles.

At the southern end of the Harbor Drive project zone, vehicles will be able to access restaurants, lodging, City Beach and the state park by taking Lake or Grand avenues to and from Harbor Drive.

A new temporary entrance will be constructed at the south end of the state park. Beach visitors, campers and people wanting to reach Fishermen’s Parking Lot will all use the temporary gate.

An access route will be maintained on Harbor Drive north of the south side of the intersection with Prospect to allow access to businesses and houses within the project area, and to allow emergency service vehicles access through the work zone.

Beginning Monday, Sept. 12, Sherman Avenue will be closed due to construction from Sand Drive to Harbor.

The project is scheduled to wrap up in May 2012. The city will issue additional updates to the construction detour as needed.
