Village Council to hold special meeting to discuss rising Greenway costs

Engineer Phil Vogelsang of URS Corp. told the Village Council on Tuesday night that he anticipates some redesign in the piling construction could significantly lessen the initial $80,000 projection.

Vogelsang said the vertical members of the boardwalk pilings were designed to hold 21,000 pounds, and the crossbeams were designed to hold 6,000 pounds.

Vogelsang suggested that the weight limits may be significantly higher than necessary for a nonmotorized trail. Current standards call for 60-foot crossbeams.

Next week’s public meeting will be held at Barber School, 102 W. Exchange St.
