Kid Rock rocks Allegan County Fair

Kid Rock took to the stage shortly after a brief shower dampened the fairgrounds, rocking the crowd with songs from his eighth album, “Born Free,” as well as those from his previous albums. He also rolled out some fellow rockers’ classics.

The thousands of fans — many on the ground floor standing on their chairs — danced and belted out tunes with the musician for the entire two-hour show. It included a series of fireworks and bursts, laser light shows and pole dancers.

“It’s nice to be back in Michigan,” said Kid Rock, who thanked the crowd for spending their “hard-earned money” to see the show. “Thank you for all your years of support.”

Kid Rock mixed up the tempo throughout night — revving it up on the drums, then slowing it down; even with some piano playing of his own. At one point in the show, Kid Rock and the band and backup singers gathered together on stools at the front of the stage for “Purple Sky,” with Kid strumming the guitar.

Standing atop the sticker-covered piano, Kid Rock ended his last show of the tour with the album’s title song, “Born Free.”

“What a beautiful night in the greatest state — Michigan,” he said before he jumped down from the piano and disappeared from the stage.

As fans filed out of the fairgrounds following the show, one man unfurled an American flag and cast it high above his head for a moment — showing honor to our country, he said.
