Tuesday Musicale turns 100

Tuesday Musicale has evolved a little over the 100 years since Mary Soule hosted the club’s first meeting and program in her Grand Haven home in January 1911.

“We don’t meet every week anymore, like they used to,” Zelenka said. “But we do meet once a month, and then not in the summer.”

Tuesday Musicale opened its 2011-12 season with its typical hour-or-so-long program on Sept. 13. Mayor Roger Bergman presented a City Council proclamation that the day was officially Tuesday Musicale Day in Grand Haven.

The membership number has remained fairly steady over the years, Zelenka said, at between 40 and 50. Currently, four members are men and most of the group is over the age of 50.

Tuesday Musicale next meets at the Community Center at 11:45 a.m. Oct. 11. Baritone soloist Tom Clark, accompanied by pianist Dr. Solee Clark, is the scheduled program.
