Robbins Road Hardware closing

Wheeler said his daughters — Chelsea, who is pregnant, and Emily — both live in Charlotte, N.C. His son, Zachary, will also be moving once he graduates from Lawrence Technology University in Southfield.

Robbins Road Hardware was started in the 1950s by Jack Tysman when Beechtree Street was the designated route through the city. Since then, numerous other businesses — including Meijer and Walmart — have sprung up around the store.

Jack’s son, Bill Tysman, sold the store to Wheeler in November 2007 when the younger Tysman said he wanted to cut back his work load.

Wheeler also owns Uncle Vern’s Hardware at 899 W. Laketon in Muskegon. He said that store will be sold.
