“As far as around the plant, they have already completed the backwash retention tank,” said Joe VanderStel, facilities manager for the Northwest Ottawa Water System.

The new tank, located adjacent to the Mulligan’s Hollow tennis courts, will replace the blue tank visible from Harbor Drive. Once everything is on-line in the spring, crews will dismantle the blue tank. It is likely that basketball courts would replace the tank, based on the new Mulligan’s Hollow Master Plan.

The work near the water treatment plant follows a renovation of the facility that expanded output from 15.5 million gallons per day to nearly 24 million gallons per day.

“They are pretty much on schedule,” VanderStel said of the current project.

All of the work on the expansion project is scheduled to be finalized next spring.
