The new group seeks to be a voice for the industry and represents a wide array of filmmakers, organizations and local businesses in West Michigan.
Originally an ad hoc committee under the name West Michigan Film Initiative Task Force, a group that had been tasked with supporting the West Michigan Film Office, the new group aims to take an active role in supporting media arts initiatives that build economic growth in West Michigan.
“As we began to share how the industry creates jobs and supports community businesses, we realized that there wasn’t an organization equipped to represent West Michigan’s interests in new legislation, attract entertainment studios and support building a strong infrastructure for long-term sustainability,” said the organization’s president, Dick Rolfe, who is also CEO of The Dove Foundation.
Deb Havens is the chairwoman of the West Michigan Film Video Alliance, and is serving as the new coalition’s secretary and treasurer.
