“Two of the three candidates have agreed to participate,” said Jennifer Williams, who is helping to organize the event.
Both Geri McCaleb and write-in candidate Ken Sharkey will participate in the candidates forum, which takes place at 7 p.m. Monday in the Escanaba Room of the Grand Haven Community Center, 421 Columbus Ave.
McCaleb is a former member of Grand Haven City Council and Sharkey owns Commercial Contractors Inc.
The two are looking to fill the seat currently held by Mayor Roger Bergman. Bergman announced earlier this year that he would not run for re-election after serving on City Council for the past 12 years.
Tribune Publisher Kevin Hook said he was pleased to be able to co-sponsor the event, and he was hopeful people would make an effort to attend it and learn what the candidates are about.
“We feel that events like this are a great way to help people make informed decisions,” Hook said. “It’s important that the citizens of Grand Haven get to this event and listen to what the candidates have to say. We are part of a great community here in Grand Haven and choosing the right leadership is a critical part of keeping our great city that way.”
According to Williams, the candidate forum will just feature mayoral candidates; and will not have City Council candidates Mike Fritz or John Hierholzer, who are running unopposed in the Nov. 8 election.
