call the BLP customer service line after 4 p.m. Friday until the end of business that day.
According to Kristin Kratt, BLP controller, the age of the current system limits its technical capabilities and the new system will expand the technology and improve communication with customers.
“Currently the service building and the J.B. Sims Generating Station have separate phone systems that are not connected and do not allow transfers between buildings,” Kratt said. “After this conversion, there will be one new phone system with improved technology, reliability and the ability to transfer calls between locations.”
Kratt said there will also be a reduction in costs because there will be a more efficient phone service plan.
Officials said the conversion will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday and will be completed over the weekend with the new phone system in use Monday morning beginning at 7:30 a.m.
The BLP’s main phone line will remain the same at 846-6250. The emergency line will still be available and will be answered. However, responders will not be able to transfer any calls to the customer service department or answer any billing questions.
Customers are asked to call 842-2241 for emergencies only.
