CWIT seeks help with Adopt-a-Family program

For more than 20 years, the Center for Women in Transition has been providing the holiday program for clients struggling with the effects of domestic and sexual violence.

“The holiday season can be very difficult for some families in the best of times — and, for many of our clients who are in crisis, it can be overwhelming,” said Sherry Martens, the center’s volunteer coordinator. “By adopting a family, you help relieve stress and anxiety, giving families an opportunity to celebrate their holiday season according to their own family traditions.

“We have been very fortunate over the years to provide this program to our current clients,” she continued. “We were able to match 130 families last year.”

For more information on how to adopt a family or make donations, call Martens at 616-494-1747 or e-mail adoptafamily@aplaceforwomen.org.

Donors are being accepted through Nov. 11 and all matches will be made no later than Nov. 21. Deliver donations to 411 Butternut Drive in Holland Township between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Dec. 1-9. Individuals in North Ottawa County can make arrangements with Martens to deliver their donations to another location.
