On Oct. 11, Gov. Rick Snyder signed a partial-birth abortion ban into law. The law is a long-awaited, celebrated achievement by dedicated pro-life people in Michigan.

Also at the dinner, Grand Haven High School senior Casey Miller gave a speech, which won the 2011 Tri-Cities Right to Life Oratory Contest. Miller also took first place in the 2010 contest.

Miller’s speech focused on the choice that women make to end their pregnancy by abortion, which may result in a lifetime of physical pain and sadness.

“There are endless possible positive effects everyday of choosing life over death,” she said.

Mary VerWys of Grand Rapids was the keynote speaker for the evening. VerWys has been a “sidewalk counselor” outside of abortion clinics for more than 20 years. She reaches out to offer alternatives and emotional support to women entering or leaving the clinics.
