Tribune set to launch Daily Deals program

Daily Deals West Michigan is a local program promoting discounts of 50-90 percent. A new deal will be offered each Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

“We are very excited to bring savings to our customers, and help our advertisers generate new customers and more revenue,” Tribune Advertising Director Rob Francis said.

Tribune Publisher Kevin Hook said Daily Deals is one more method the local newspaper can deliver information to Northwest Ottawa County.

“We are in the business of distributing information,” he said. “That information is sometimes in the form of news and sometimes in form of advertising — both are forms of information. The more often we can be the distributor of the information, the better off we will be. In this case, the deals program will give readers one more reason to become engaged with our website, which will benefit the Tribune as well as the advertisers on the site.”

The deals will be announced on the Tribune website and promoted in the newspaper. People interested in deals must first sign up online at http://dailydeals.grandhaventrib.... Daily Deals promotions clipped out of the newspaper will not be redeemable at participating businesses; vouchers must be obtained by purchasing online.  

Daily Deals will compete in the burgeoning online deals market made popular by group-buying sites such as Groupon and LivingSocial. Unlike Groupon, Daily Deals won’t require a minimum number of buyers to sign up before a deal becomes official.  

Francis said the local focus of Daily Deals distinguishes it from the other online discount programs.

“I believe our advantage is our hyper-local emphasis,” he said. “We’ll also include ‘Deal Bucks’ for customers who refer friends that make voucher purchases online — a feature you won’t find with other discount programs.”

Hook said the discount program is designed to bring customers into local businesses, while also saving local residents money as they “buy local.” He explained that the program will help businesses increase their customer base, ultimately generating more business for them down the road.

“Our ability to market this program in print and online allows us to get the message in front of people that might be interested in a particular product or service,” Hook said. “The business acquires new customers and the user gets a good deal — everyone benefits!”
