Research conducted at the Cleveland Clinic showed a 35-percent reduction in symptoms by the simple act of pedaling a bicycle at a rapid pace — optimally at 80-90 revolutions per minute. Some people showed up to a 60-percent reduction in symptoms.
The local YMCA will be launching a seven-week indoor Pedaling for Parkinson’s cycling class at the end of November. Participants can ride on tandem bikes, in which another individual can help them reach the necessary revolutions. Individuals with higher capacity can ride individual bikes. All bikes are stationary.
At the open house, there will be demonstrations as well as the opportunity to try a bike.
