Salvation Army's Red Kettles come out Friday

The Salvation Army on Friday is launching its annual Red Kettle drive to raise money to help more than 400 families with Christmas gifts and meals.

Capt. Jay Davis said the local Salvation Army has set a target of $20,000 through Red Kettle donations. The Salvation Army is also hopeful of $100,000 in other donations to the organization.

The bell-ringing activities begin at 10 a.m. at the D&W Food Center, 1116 Robbins Road in Grand Haven.

“The D&W Spartan Store has a longstanding relationship with The Salvation Army, hosting the bell ringers year after year in order to raise funds for local families in need of assistance during the holiday season,” Jay Davis said.

The Salvation Army’s bell ringing has been starting earlier in an attempt to meet the needs of an increased number of households in the North Ottawa area that are in need of assistance, Jay Davis said.

The Salvation Army is counting on area residents to step up once again.

To make a donation or to volunteer, contact The Salvation Army at 310 N. DeSpelder, P.O. Box 181, Grand Haven, MI 49417. People can also call 842-3380.
