Loftis named Jingle Bell Parade grand marshal
Jul 21, 2015 at 11:13 AM
The parade, organized by the Chamber of Commerce Grand Haven-Spring Lake-Ferrysburg, will begin at 6 p.m.
Loftis was born in Grand Rapids as one of seven children. He was introduced to the food service industry as a part-time employee when he was 14 years old. He later earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism at the University of Florida, and worked as a newspaper reporter in California before returning to Grand Rapids as director of sales at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel.
In 1984, Loftis and his wife Carole purchased the Khardomah Lodge in Grand Haven, which they owned and operated until 1998. In 1989, they purchased the Snug Harbor restaurant. They have since expanded their business portfolio to include DeeLite Bar & Grill, The Theatre Bar, the Grand Seafood & Oyster Bar and Jelly’s — all in downtown Grand Haven.
Loftis has a commitment to the arts in the community, noted as the host to the Chilly Blues Festival for 19 years and more recently as the driving force behind the creation of Grand Haven’s ArtWalk. Loftis was honored this past May at the Chamber of Commerce’s annual dinner as the 2011 Spirit of Community Award recipient for devoting time and energy to improve the quality of life for others, and demonstrating leadership and initiative in the development of volunteer projects, Chamber officials said.
The parade will begin at the Ottawa County parking lot on Franklin Avenue, under the direction of Parade Director Dennis McKee. The parade will continue west down Franklin to Harbor Drive, north on Harbor to Washington Avenue, and will proceed east to Central Park for the lighting of the Community Christmas Tree and a carol sing with Santa and Mrs. Claus. The Salvation Army canteen will be serving hot chocolate at the park.
Community Shores Bank is the corporate sponsor of the Jingle Bell Parade and lighting of the Christmas tree. The Grand Haven Board of Light & Power is the sponsor of the lights and decorations for the Central Park Fountain.
