Radtke said the display is back “home” because it was originally used by both the Addison Baltz and Steketee’s department stores from the 1940s to the early 1970s — in the same Akeley Building the museum now occupies.

Margaret Fortino-Michlitsch said she always admired the display as a child; and a longtime family friend, Merle Benedict, knew that. Fortino-Michlitsch said that’s why he gave the figures to her when they were no longer needed for Steketee’s.
