Coopersville’s Christmas parade is Friday night

Anonymous • Jul 21, 2015 at 11:14 AM

In keeping with the theme, Jim and Lill Budzynski — curators of the Coopersville Area Historical Society Museum and Del Shannon Memorial — will be this year’s grand marshals. Professional and organization floats decorated in the “history” theme will compete for awards and provide a festive distraction prior to the arrival of Santa Claus.

The annual Coopersville Area Chamber of Commerce parade is one of the longest, continually running Christmas parades in Michigan. It will originate at Eastmanville and Main streets at 7 p.m., and runs to the Coopersville Area Public Schools campus on East Street.

Santa and his reindeer will be accompanied by the Coopersville FFA chapter as they promenade down Main Street. Santa will disembark his sleigh to greet children at South Elementary School, and listen to their wish lists and have photos taken. Free refreshments will be served at the school while children wait their turn.

Parade events will include free hot chocolate and cookies, a reindeer petting zoo, and roasted chestnuts for sampling or purchase.

The Coopersville & Marne Railway will be providing shuttle service between East Street and the downtown train depot at 311 Danforth St. every 15 minutes from 5:25-6:55 p.m.
