Open house hours are 6-10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10.

The event will include metalsmithing demonstrations, refreshments, a student gallery, a free make-and-take gift project, discounts on classes, and displays of gemstones and jewelry.

Directed by local artist and jewelry instructor Julie Sanford, Studio JSD is a multirange jewelry design studio and gallery. The studio hosts classes in jewelry fabrication, metalsmithing, do-it-yourself wedding band workshops and specialized workshops by visiting artists.

Sanford said she moved her growing business from a small basement studio into 1101 Columbus Ave. in 2008.

With 2,500 square feet, the new Seventh Street location offers space to expand the classroom, and add gallery and retail areas, she said.

“The gallery space will house shows by students, individual artists and groups — with an emphasis on jewelry and metal arts,” Sanford said. “After two big moves, we now have the tools, equipment, space, curriculum and students to make Studio JSD the largest and only full-service independent metals studio in West Michigan.”
