The Detroit News and CBS Detroit reported Monday that Margarita Salais sued Suburban Ford of Sterling Heights in Oakland County Circuit Court. The suit claims the dealership failed to disclose the vehicle had been a rental, stolen three times and once held a body.
The lawsuit says Salais took the 2006 Ford Expedition back to Suburban Ford and was told the smell came from a dead animal. A letter in her suit says a hazardous materials company determined it was a human odor.
Jim Elder, the dealership’s general sales manager, said the smell wasn’t there when Salais bought the car. He said the dealership “would love to get to the bottom of it.”
