The festival is recruiting talent to participate in a variety of free community showcases for professionals and amateurs, and anyone in between, through Jan. 15.
LaughFest officials said they expect to host 100 community showcases at various locations in downtown Grand Rapids, Lowell and Holland in the following categories: stand-up comedy, literature, music, short-film, theater, dance, pets, kids’ jokes and “What makes you laugh about cancer.” New this year will be two different showcases: one for corporations to present their “best funny” and the other will be a “Best Joke/One Liner” showcase.
LaughFest is also encouraging the public to share their ideas about what they would like to see showcased.
These non-ticketed events will be free and will be held at various times throughout the 10 days of LaughFest 2012.
“Last year, we had over 470 individuals who were showcased in more than 100 free events,” LaughFest Operations Manager Joanne Roehm said. “We had participants from across Michigan and from seven states.”
