Silver Tea tradition draws a crowd

The packed church was there to hear students from the school’s Young 5’s through second-grade programs singing songs that focused on the birth of Jesus Christ and the Christmas holiday.

“It’s always good to see such a large crowd of people,” GHCS Principal Richard Geertsma said.

Prior to the concert, Geertsma led a prayer to bless the children and event honoring Jesus.

For some of those attending the event, it was an annual tradition that goes back many years.

Joann Tysman, who was there to see little ones in her family, said she has been coming to the event for a long time and always enjoys it.

“I’ve been coming to this since my kids were little, so a long time,” she said. “It’s a wonderful thing to see.”

Following the program, Silver Tea attendees celebrated during an afterglow of holiday cookies, punch, coffee and tea in the school’s gymnasium.
