Ferrysburg seeks City Council candidates

Becky Vargo • Jul 21, 2015 at 11:17 AM

One of the vacancies was created when former Mayor Jeff Stille decided not to run for office again in order to spend more time with his family. The other vacancy was created when Ruiter beat another former councilman, John Stafford, to become mayor.

Stafford ran for mayor at the end of his council term.

Council decided to advertise the open positions starting on Jan. 6, 2012. Applications will be due at City Hall no later than Jan. 24.

The first review of the applicants by City Council will be held Feb. 6, and applicants may also address the council at that time, Ruiter said.

“Once the applicant is selected by a majority vote of City Council, the applicant will take office immediately after taking the oath of office,” Ruiter said.

Anyone interested in being on the council must be a registered Ferrysburg voter and a resident of the city for at least one year.

One of the open positions is for a two-year term ending in November 2013. The other council seat is a four-year term ending in November 2015.

The applications for appointment are available at Ferrysburg City Hall during regular business hours. The forms may sent to the Ferrysburg City Clerk, 17290 Roosevelt Road, P.O. Box 38, Ferrysburg, MI 49409-0038, by 5 p.m. Jan. 24.
