Woman says she was attacked by cougar

VenRoy said she was behind her home on 92nd Avenue in Allendale Township for an early-morning smoke on Dec. 16 when she and the cat surprised each other, then it slammed into her.

VenRoy said she first heard sounds coming from her tarp-covered car.

“It sounded like 10 people were jumping from under the tarp,” she said. “It startled me so bad I dropped my cigarette and turned, and this zoo-sized cat came and jumped, and it had its mouth open. I saw the teeth, but it closed its mouth when it hit me.”

VenRoy was not bitten, but her leg was bruised from the attack.

Connie’s father, Art VenRoy, said she woke him up for help at about 5 a.m. He grabbed his shotgun and went outside to take a look; but, by that point, they said the cat was gone.

An Ottawa County deputy who came to investigate could not find any tracks.

The only evidence of the attack on Connie was the bruise on her leg.

“No puncture wounds,” her father said. “Just canine imprints and a large scar, like something had hit her and opened its mouth.”

Connie said she heard some unfamiliar noises when she went outside to smoke a few nights after the attack, but has seen or heard nothing since then.
