Fiddlers return for library concert

Anonymous • Jul 21, 2015 at 11:18 AM

Library officials urge the public to come early due to limited seating. The library opens at 1 p.m. on Sundays.

Samer Jeroudi is the new director of the Mona Shores High School Orchestra and Fiddlers.

The group was started to create an alternative style for string players that revolved around the performance of folk music from various cultures. They perform throughout West Michigan for private parties and charity events each year.

The high school students attend a three-day camp prior to the start of the school year and then rehearse every Thursday evening in preparation for all their performances. They continue to learn new music to add to their repertoire. Most of the students start their fiddling by joining the folk fiddling classes offered through Mona Shores Community Education.

The Fiddlers performed at the Michigan Irish Festival this past fall; and are planning to tour the Czech Republic, Hungary and Austria in 2012 with the school orchestras.
