Gun club shooting range evaluation yet to be scheduled

“An evaluation has not been scheduled yet,” he said. “A request has been made by (NORGC) counsel to the National Rifle Association Range Technical Team for the evaluation.”

Gun club officials had hoped that the evaluation of its outdoor shooting range would have been done last month. Welch said the preliminary work for the evaluation has been done on the gun club’s end; however, they are waiting for NRA officials to schedule the evaluation.

The outdoor shooting range closed Sept. 29, 2011, after a man working in the nearby Cutter Park subdivision reported being hit in the arm by a stray bullet during the time Grand Valley State University police officers were conducting a training exercise at the gun club.

The club is off 160th Avenue, south of Ferris Street, in Grand Haven Township.

Residents in the 98-home Cutter Park subdivision, located east of the gun club, also discovered stray bullets lodged in homes, along with other property damages associated with bullets.

“It will remain closed until further notice,” Welch said this morning of the outdoor shooting range.
