Craig Bunce of Zeeland Township will seek the judgeship long held by Richard Kloote, who Bunce said is unable to run for re-election due to election age limitations.

In 2007, Bunce successfully co-prosecuted six individuals for the cold case murder of Janet Chandler.

In 2004, Bunce was designated as the prosecutor’s representative on the 58th District Sobriety Court team. This specialty court seeks to reduce recidivism of offenders with serious alcohol-dependencies through therapeutic and sanction-based programming. Last year, Bunce was presented the statewide Drug Court Hero award for his work with the sobriety program.

Bunce graduated from Valparaiso University School of Law in 1990. After three years of private practice with Cunningham Dalman PC, he joined the Ottawa County Prosecutor’s office. Bunce manages cases involving drunk driving domestic violence, rape, robberies, serious assault and murder.

Bunce currently serves on the Lakeshore Alliance Against Domestic and Sexual Violence Board, which seeks to proactively reduce incidents of domestic and sexual violence through education and collaboration. He is also a founding board member of Compassionate Heart Ministry, a nonprofit Christian ministry that provides a social place for individuals with disabilities to meet with mentors.

He was also a founding board member of City on a Hill Ministries, a Zeeland-based Christian ministry that serves other independent nonprofit ministries. He also served on the Zeeland Christian School Board.

Bunce, 46, and his wife of 22 years, Donna, have four children.
