Cotton told Village Council on Monday night that he had received a telephone call earlier that day to notify him that he will be asked to return for a second interview in about two weeks.

“Two people were invited back and I’m one of those people,” Cotton told council. “We’ll see where it goes after that.”

Cotton was interviewed in Holland for the job last week as one of four finalists. He was the only candidate from West Michigan.

On Monday, the search committee narrowed the field to Cotton and Frederick (Colo.) Town Administrator Derek Todd.

“It’s a great honor to be considered,” Cotton said. “I’m looking forward to their additional opportunity to get to know people. We will see how it turns out. Either way, I will be satisfied.”

The Holland position opened when Soren Wolff retired in September 2011 after 23 years as city manager.
