“It’s a great location with a lot of space and we’re excited about that,” Love INC President/CEO Eric Morgan said.
Robbins Road Hardware was a staple business on Grand Haven’s south side since the 1950s. The business closed its doors in October 2011 and the building was put up for sale.
Morgan said Love INC acquired the building Jan. 11, and they were able to do so through “the generosity of (Bill) Tysman and key donors.” Love INC now owns the facility debt-free.
Located two blocks from the new Love INC Ministry Center on Despelder Street, Morgan said the new store will play a crucial role in tying in with the shelter.
“It is going to be able to generate revenue to operate the Ministry Center,” he said.
According to Morgan, after looking at past-year finances, he discovered the Spring Lake store generated enough revenue to support the Hope House.
“We’ve proved through our store in Spring Lake that it can be a profit center for items that don’t go to one of our ministries,” he said.
Morgan said he was hopeful the Grand Haven store would be able to do the same for the upcoming men’s wing of the facility.
“This is going to allow the men’s shelter to sustain itself for decades,” he said.
