Mural painted for new museum exhibit

“I am trying to paint a picture of the Grand River and birch trees as if it were way back when,” Huttinga said Saturday.
Huttinga said she drew inspiration from plenty of pictures and artwork of the Grand River for color, perspective and reference — and she used her lifelong passion of painting to create the mural.
“I used to do a lot of murals when I was a lot younger and before the economy (went bad),” she said. “Nobody wants to spend money, so now I paint paintings mostly.”
It was these paintings that helped Huttinga get the opportunity to work on the mural.
The museum is at 200 Washington Ave. in downtown Grand Haven.
