Students celebrate friendship on Valentine’s Day

Students celebrated the holiday with parties sparked with fun games, sweet treats, chocolate fountains — and, of course, handing out those “Be Mine” valentines.

Grant Edson, a kindergartner in Michele DeYoung’s afternoon class at Peach Plains, said his favorite part of the class party was getting the valentines from his friends. “It was a lot of fun,” he said of the party.

Students in DeYoung’s class played tic-tac-toe with red and white hearts, made candy necklaces, and had a matching heart relay. The 24 students also took double turns batting a cupcake piñata before parent helpers had to rip it open, spilling its sweet contents.

“It looked like they had a lot of fun,” said Abby Gonzalez, one of the parent helpers.

DeYoung said it was fun for the kids to celebrate the holiday with their family and friends.
