It replaces a winter storm watch and includes Muskegon, Kent, Ionia, Clinton, Barry, Eaton, Ingham, Calhoun and Jackson counties.
The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids issued the advisory for precipitation developing toward midnight as a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain. The precipitation should switch to freezing rain for a time overnight before changing to rain Wednesday morning.
Icing of one-tenth to two-tenths of an inch is possible from freezing rain.
Travel conditions will deteriorate late tonight into Wednesday morning as the mixture of precipitation spreads over the area. Poor travel conditions are possible for the morning commute, especially along Interstate 96. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.
