Refreshing township roads

Kyle Moroney • Jul 21, 2015 at 11:27 AM

The Township Board on Monday unanimously approved spending an estimated $581,213 with the Ottawa County Road Commission to pave 4.41 miles in the township.

Township Manager Bill Cargo recommended the approval, explaining that the cost is about less than 1 percent over the entire $722,500 street and roads budget — or about $5,700 more than anticipated. The township’s general fund at the end of its 2011 fiscal year is “projected to be very healthy," Cargo said.

While county projects normally come in under their contracted amount, the Township Board will need to make a budget amendment to balance the general fund account for the initial 2012 fiscal year budget amendment, according to Cargo.

“This is an estimate — the contract is not signed,” he said of the paving cost. “This will be subcontracted out. It will not be done by the county.”

Portions of the roads that are expected to be repaved include: Curve, Royal Oak and Meadows drives; David, Gary and Green Oak streets; Pine Ridge, Grand Oak and Oak Grove roads; Willowwood, Millhouse and Meadowbrook courts; and 163rd, 177th, 154th, 155th, Oak Chapel and Great Oak avenues.
