Harbor Drive to open soon

Grand Haven Construction Manager Julie Beaton said the size of the excavation is blocking access where Mulligan’s Drive enters the city parking lot. She said motorists traveling to the YMCA, skate park, open space and Mulligan’s Hollow lodge area will need to take Y Drive through April 9.

“Folks traveling to the water treatment facility, private office building or Imagination Station need to take Mulligan’s Drive,” she said.

Once this work is complete, Y Drive will close on April 9 when the 30-inch main is connected. It will likely reopen April 23.

“We are coordinating with the (Board of Light & Power) in the intersection of Harbor and Y drives," Beaton said, "as the BLP’s contractor, Advanced, has conduit to install before we button it up.”

Work crew members are assisting drivers as they enter the job site, and there are signs directing people to where they need to go.

Dean Buntley, CEO/executive director of the Tri-Cities Family YMCA, said they are trying to make the best of the situation and attendance hasn’t been seriously impacted.

“For the most part, the regulars are still coming,” he said.

Buntley said the city has been “great to work with” and has provided the YMCA with timely updates on the project, which have been passed on to YMCA members.
