M-231 bypass construction begins in Crockery Twp.

Construction plans include widening the road to four lanes and reconstructing the exit ramps. The Cleveland Street and Apple Drive intersection will also be reconfigured and a new westbound on-ramp on I-96 will be added, according to MDOT officials. An eastbound exit ramp on the highway is planned, but is slated for construction in 2013.
While many Tri-Cities residents have known about the scope of the construction project for some time now — with some expressing concerns with the project — the closure of 112th Avenue will mostly affect traffic in Nunica.
“I think the biggest impact will be on local travel,” Crockery Township Supervisor Leon Stille said. “Local citizens, I think, will find it challenging to get around.”
MDOT said I-96 traffic will be maintained using single-lane closures. An estimated finish date for the 112th Avenue construction is Aug. 27.
However, short-term nighttime freeway closures will be in place during weekend bridge removal. Ramps will be closed for realignment from mid-April to late August.
