More than 30 vendors arrange their goods along the sidewalk at the corner of Pennoyer and Beechtree on Grand Haven’s east side each Tuesday from 4-8 p.m.
Organizer Mary Mitchell, owner of Fat Chix Coffee Cantina, said the market is a community-building success.
“We have so many people with such rich talent,” Mitchell said. “This is one way to share that richness with all of our friends and neighbors.”
The market will run through August and organizers will then consider plans for a Christmas Market and another run in 2013. Vendors range in age from youngsters to seniors, and goods available for purchase include fruits and vegetables, hamburgers, baked goods, jewelry, books and rugs.
Vendors pay $5 per evening, and live music lends the market a festive atmosphere.
Mitchell credits others with the success of the market.
“This market is about the people of this region who appreciate local commerce with local flair,” she said. “Once we get it going, the people will make this market a success.”
