The officer went to a Clinton Street residence just before 3 a.m. Sunday. He was repeatedly hit with a wine bottle shortly after he arrived, said Jeff Hawke, director of GHDPS.

The officer and the 18-year-old suspect “were then involved in a physical altercation, which ended with the suspect being subdued and handcuffed,” Hawke said. “A taser was deployed by the officer to bring the suspect under control.”

Hawke said the officer was taken to North Ottawa Community Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect was lodged in the Ottawa County Jail and charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm. The charge is a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Bond was set at $50,000. The man’s name is being withheld pending arraignment.
