District eyes admitting boy who took gun to school

AP Wire • Jul 21, 2015 at 11:50 AM

The Gull Lake Community Schools Board voted Monday to appoint a five-member committee to consider the issue.

Chris Rundle, superintendent of the Kalamazoo County district, said they've received about 100 phone calls and e-mails regarding the matter, and most opposed the readmission.

State law gives the committee 10 school days to develop a recommendation. The school board is expected to vote on it Dec. 17.

Authorities said the boy brought a .22-caliber handgun and 200 rounds of ammunition to school on Nov. 8, 2011, as part of a plan to run away with two classmates.
