Full military rites were performed at the Klaassen Funeral Home by honor guards from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, and the American Legion post in Grand Haven.
Norvell, 30, died Nov. 14 off base from the Travis Air Force Base in California, where he worked as a precision measurement equipment laboratory specialist, according to the U.S. Air Force.
Norvell’s obituary said he is survived by his mother and step-father, Donna and Jim Sacks of Grand Haven; his father and step-mother, Gregory and Dianna Norvell of Richmond, Maine; a brother, Justin Sacks of Grand Haven; and a sister, Kira (Eric) Richards.
Norvell was a graduate of Mariemont High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, and Kent State University, said Marleen Vaughn, a longtime family friend. He once lived in Grand Haven and Grand Rapids.
While Norvell was laid to rest Friday at Grand Haven Township Cemetery, his death remains under investigation by the U.S. Air Force. Staff Sgt. Patrick Harrower of the 60th Air Mobility Wing’s public affairs division at Travis Air Force Base said earlier this week that the base is working with local officials on the death of the active-duty airman.
