Pearl Harbor Day is Friday

Friday is Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.

The official Pearl Harbor Tour Site has a blog with many stories from servicemen who were there when Japan attacked the United States on Dec. 7, 1941.

A Sept. 13 entry mentions the story of Glen Lane, one of the very few remaining Arizona survivors until he died in December 2011. A ceremony for Glen was held at the USS Arizona Memorial in September.

"About 20 of Glen’s family members made their way to Pearl Harbor where Navy divers interred his ashes in one of the Arizona’s gun turrets," the blogger noted. "... Continuing his service in the Navy for 30 years, Lane retired in Washington, but it was always his dream to return to his shipmates. His final wish became a reality yesterday."
