Snyder reviewing legislation on guns in schools

AP Wire • Jul 21, 2015 at 11:56 AM

The House gave final approval Friday to legislation that says someone who gets extra training could be allowed to have a concealed weapon in a gun-free zone.

Spokeswoman Sara Wurfel said the governor believes mass shootings like the one Friday that left 26 people — including 20 children — dead at a Connecticut elementary school "must and should give pause." But Wurfel said Snyder doesn't want to jump to conclusions.

The bill would allow schools to opt out. It also would put county sheriffs in charge of concealed-weapons applications instead of local boards.
