High wind advisory extended to midnight

West winds at 20-30 mph with higher gusts will cause blowing and drifting snow tonight. We can expect scattered snow showers, blowing and drifting snow, and temperatures falling below freezing over the next few hours.

Travelers, especially those on north-south roadways, will experience difficulty in driving. This is especially true of high-profile vehicles.

The wind may also cause snow and ice hanging from roofs to break free and fall.

Caution is advised.

The forecast for the Grand Haven area:

Tonight: Snow showers. Low around 27. Breezy, with a west-northwest wind 21 to 26 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. Total nighttime snow accumulation of less than 1 inch possible.

Tuesday: A 30 percent chance of snow showers before 1 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 32. West-southwest wind 13 to 16 mph.
