The rapidly falling temperatures earlier this morning led to icy roads and some school closings in the area. Check wzzm13.com for the complete list of closings and delays.

The National Weather Service said snow will increase this morning, with total accumulations of 3-6 inches by late tonight.

Westerly winds of 30-40 mph will create blowing and drifting snow, and wind chills in the single digits on today. Periods of near-blizzard conditions are possible late this morning through mid-afternoon. Visibilities will be reduced to less than a mile at times in moderate snowfall and blowing snow.

The weather bureau advises West Michigan residents to plan accordingly for a slower-than-normal commute this morning and evening.
