Steam released as power plant restarts

"They are starting up the plant," said Board of Light and Power Administrative Services Manager Renee Molyneux said this morning. "It is very, very, very loud."

Molyneux said sometimes when the Sims III plant is restarted, steam builds up and it has to be released.

Plant officials were testing the turbine protection devices when the plant tripped (stopped running), she said. The protection devices did work.

Releases of steam continued until the plant was running again shortly after 1 p.m., Molyneux said.

Nobody was without power at any time, she said.

"You would never have noticed if we didn't release steam," Molyneux said.

The release of steam has happened before, she added.
