Jobless rates rise in all Michigan labor markets

The state announced this week that Michigan's seasonally unadjusted jobless rate hit 9.7 percent in January, up from 8.9 percent in December. When adjusted for seasonal changes, the rate of 8.9 percent in January was unchanged from December.
The Department of Technology, Management & Budget says employment and labor force levels fell seasonally in all regions.
The Ottawa County jobless rate rose from 6.4 percent in December to 6.7 percent in January. The Muskegon County rate jumped from 8.3 to 9 percent, and the four-county Grand Rapids market rose three-tenths of point to 6.6 percent in January.
